How to Become a Certified Hospital Doula with TCA

  • Complete the two day in-person class
  • Complete the online classwork provided to you
  • Create a resource list of local practitioners who support natural birth, such as Midwives,  Chiropractors, lactation counselors. yoga instructors, acupuncturists, birth tub rentals, child birth educators, herbalists, massage therapists, nutritionists, hypnotists and postpartum doulas.
  • $450 Investment
 In the certification curriculum, topics covered are:

  • ​The doula role and scope of care
  • History of  doula in the U.S.
  • ​Universal precautions and safety
  • ​Cultural responsibility
  • ​Trauma Informed Care
  • Shared decision making​ ​​
  • Advocacy and birth rights
  • The progression of labor 
  • Possible interventions 


  • Interviewing with potential clients
  • Facilitation of prenatal visits 
  • ​Birth support in the hospital
  • Postpartum follow-up

The two day in person portion of the curriculum is hands on practice. Skills covered are:

Lite touch for comfort
Counter pressure techniques 
​labor positions for home and in the hospital 
Guided imagery 
Herbal preparation for pregnancy, birth and immediate postpartum
Use of birth tools (birth ball, peanut ball, TENS, hot and cold packs and more) 
Aromatherapy 
Nourishing meals
